SAFE SCHOOL PROGRAM

Mission Statement
To solve and prevent felony crimes and/or terroristic threats, possession of weapons, vandalism, possession of narcotics, and gang activity which has already occurred, is in the process of occurring, or may occur in the future on Harris County High School and Middle School campuses, school buses, and at school events.

What We Do
In 1997, Crime Stoppers established the Safe School Program to encourage reports about terroristic threats, weapons, narcotics, gang activity, and other planned school crimes on Harris County high school and middle school campuses. The Crime Stoppers Safe School team visits schools in more than twenty-two Harris County school districts, and educates students about responsibly reporting criminal activity to 713-222-TIPS.

Our Success
Since inception, the Safe School Program has seized 228 weapons from students on campus, solved more than 950 narcotic cases, solved 15 arsons, thwarted 8 bomb threats and paid more than $230,000 in cash rewards to student tipsters.

2008 - 2009 School Year
-10 guns recovered
-10 knives recovered
-129 crimes solved
-$20,250 in cash rewards paid to student tipsters

You Can Make a Difference in Your School!
If you give valid information on guns, knives, other weapons, drugs, arson, terroristic activity, or on gang activity, you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 if your tip leads to an arrest and charging of a suspect.
